Air Algérie Set to Receive First Brand-New Aircraft in July from Eco-Friendly Fleet Order

Air Algérie will receive its first Airbus A330-900 in July, marking the beginning of a 16-aircraft fleet renewal aimed at sustainability and fuel efficiency.

Air Algérie is gearing up to receive the first of 16 brand-new aircraft this July, beginning with the delivery of an Airbus A330-900. This milestone is part of the national airline’s broader strategy to modernize its fleet with eco-friendly planes that are 20% more fuel-efficient, leading to lower operational costs and reduced carbon emissions.

During a media training session on Wednesday, June 11, Air Algérie officials highlighted the environmental advantages of the new aircraft. The modern planes will not only enhance customer experience but also align with global efforts to decarbonize aviation.

Air Algérie Commits to Sustainability

According to Echourouk, the new aircraft are engineered to consume 20% less fuel, significantly lowering CO2 emissions. This initiative is central to Air Algérie’s transformation into a more sustainable airline, affecting its core services and subsidiaries like Cargo and Catering.

As part of its green push, the airline is actively participating in two international CO2 emissions monitoring programs. It is also adopting additional measures such as reducing the weight of baggage and cargo, and recycling materials like used oil, to shrink its carbon footprint.

Amel Derrough, a representative of Air Algérie, revealed that the airline currently purchases EU carbon contracts for its intra-European flights. This has prompted collaboration with Algeria’s Ministry of the Environment to create a national carbon certification framework, as reported by El Moudjahid.

Future-Ready Fleet Expansion

Air Algérie’s existing fleet of 55 aircraft will be expanded with the addition of 16 new jets—eight Airbus A330-900s and eight Boeing 737 MAX planes. The airline is also negotiating to acquire two more aircraft, signaling its continued commitment to modernizing and greening its operations.

With this eco-conscious renewal plan, Air Algérie is positioning itself as a leading player in sustainable aviation in Africa and beyond.
