ALGIERS - The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, affirmed on Saturday evening that his supreme objective, the contours of which are beginning to take shape, is for Algeria to regain the greatness that has enabled it to accomplish so many achievements in the past, welcoming the satisfaction shown by Algerians with the development underway in their country.

During his regular interview with representatives of the national media, the President of the Republic expressed his gratitude to all the dedicated patriots who look after the well-being of citizens and the improvement of their daily lives, as reflected, he said, by the feeling of "satisfaction" that Algerians express towards their country and the positive developments recorded on all fronts.

In this respect, he emphasized that his aim was for Algeria to regain the greatness that had enabled it to make achievements in many fields, be they political, diplomatic or in support of liberation movements around the world.

The President of the Republic asserted that he had a special affection for the people and young people in particular, underlining that the expression "Aami Tebboune" (Uncle Tebboune) favored by the Algerian people reflects a "great respect and a paternal relationship" of which he is proud.

The President of the Republic also emphasized that the trust he has placed in young people has enabled Algeria to become a leader in the creation of start-ups in Africa, recalling that he was "the candidate of young people" in the 2019 Presidential election.

In response to a question about his candidacy for the presidential election scheduled for September 7, the President of the Republic said it was premature to comment on the matter, reaffirming that he had five months left in his current term of office, during which he would continue to implement his program and make field visits to several wilayas across the country.

Regarding the decision to hold an early presidential election on September 7, the President of the Republic asserted that this was due to "purely technical reasons" which had no bearing on the election or its progress, pointing out that there had been contradictory speculation in foreign circles on this subject.

The President of the Republic also addressed the question of the registration of members of the national community abroad on the electoral rolls for the forthcoming presidential election, revealing that "they will be able to register on provisional electoral rolls at Algerian consulates, starting next week".

In response to a question about Algerians in an irregular situation abroad, who are requesting regularization and passports, the President of the Republic affirmed that "this matter will be definitively settled in two months at the latest", adding that directives had been given for their regularization on a case-by-case basis.

With regard to his visit to France, the President of the Republic said that it "is still topical", stressing that relations with France "need to be rebuilt without giving up one bit on the issue of Memory".

On the socio-economic front, the President of the Republic affirmed that the measures taken in advance by the State to ensure the availability of various consumer products had made it possible to guarantee price stability during the month of Ramadhan, welcoming the support of retailers and industrialists for the measures taken to this end.

He also pointed out that the value of national agricultural production stood at 35 billion USD, or 18% of gross domestic product (GDP), compared with over 5% for the industrial sector.

On the international stage, the President of the Republic spoke of the Palestinian question, asserting that "Algeria's next battle will be to enable Palestine to become a full member of the UN", praising Algeria's "effective and recognized" diplomacy.

"Algeria has no expansionist ambitions" and will always be on the side of the oppressed, he maintained.

He also recalled Algeria's constant position on the Western Sahara cause, as a decolonization issue. "If we use reason instead of threats and force, we will reach a solution", he said.

On his latest meeting with Maghreb leaders, the President of the Republic revealed that the Maghreb bloc that the countries of the region intend to create is aimed at relaunching joint Maghreb action and coordinating efforts to unify the voice of these countries on many international issues, without excluding any party.

Referring to the situation in Mali, he said that "the Malians are our brothers and are free to choose to resolve their problems without Algeria", but "experience shows that foreign interference in local crises removes any prospect of a solution".

Algeria "will not submit and will confront all provocations", he asserted.
