Algeria Achieves Milestone in Housing Development with 1.7 Million Units Built in Four Years

Housing Projects in Algeria

At the 41st session of the 8th Arab Housing Conference, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, Algeria’s Minister of Housing, Urbanization, and Cities, announced that Algeria has successfully constructed and distributed 1.7 million housing units in the last four years. These units include cities and urban poles equipped with essential public networks and infrastructure.

Significant Investment in Public Facilities

The minister highlighted that 1,924 public facilities have been built as part of the housing development, with an estimated $35 billion allocated to this initiative. This investment has played a key role in improving the occupancy rate of newly constructed housing units.

Housing as a Social and Economic Project

Minister Belaribi described housing in Algeria as a project with both social and economic objectives. As part of this initiative, 45 urban poles have been established, covering an area of 33,000 hectares across 37 provinces in Algeria. This expansion is aimed at improving living conditions and promoting sustainable urban development.

A Commitment to Local Materials and Sustainability

In line with Algeria’s focus on self-sufficiency, the minister confirmed that all building materials used in these projects are 100% Algerian. He also emphasized that housing remains a key priority for the government, guided by the wise vision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, making it one of the main pillars of Algeria’s national development plan.

The Role of the 8th Arab Housing Conference

Regarding the ongoing 8th Arab Housing Conference, Minister Belaribi noted that the event serves as an important platform for addressing the challenges faced by countries in achieving social stability through effective housing solutions.
