Algeria Announces New Domestic Airline to Strengthen Regional Connectivity and Refocus Air Algérie on International Flights

On May 27, a critical step was taken in Algeria's aviation sector with the decision to create a new airline dedicated to domestic flights. The project will allow Air Algérie to focus on international routes while enhancing regional connectivity within the country.

The decision to launch the new airline was first made by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on March 12. Following nearly three months of preparation, key discussions took place on May 27 between Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Transport, Said Sayoud, and other relevant stakeholders, including the CEOs of Air Algérie and Tassili Airlines. The meeting centered around the operational mechanics of transferring Tassili Airlines' assets and workforce to the new airline, ensuring its smooth launch.

The establishment of this airline comes as part of a broader strategy to improve Algeria's domestic connectivity by strengthening air links across its vast regions, contributing to both economic and social development. The new airline's name has not been disclosed, but the goal is clear: alleviate the strain on Air Algérie, allowing it to concentrate on its international operations.

The creation of a dedicated domestic airline marks a significant step in Algeria's aviation plans, helping streamline domestic air travel and support broader regional development.
