ALGIERS - The President of the National People's Assembly (APN), Mr. Brahim Boughali, was received in Kigali on Monday by the President of the Rwandan Senate, Mr. Kalinda François-Xavier, according to a press release from the lower house of parliament.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of Mr. Boughali's participation, as a representative of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in the inauguration ceremony of the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Mr. Paul Kagame.

On this occasion, Mr. Boughali stressed "the importance of Algeria's opening of its embassy in Kigali for strengthening bilateral relations and extending areas of cooperation between the two countries", highlighting "the positive results of the visit to Rwanda by Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People's National Army (ANP)", which reflect, he said, "Algeria's commitment to peace and security efforts in the Great Lakes region and on the African continent in general".

For his part, the President of the Rwandan Senate expressed "his thanks to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for the participation of an Algerian delegation in the investiture ceremony and for the scholarships granted by Algeria to Rwandan students", calling for "the strengthening of bilateral cooperation".

Highlighting "the convergence of views between the two parties on a number of regional and international issues of common interest", Mr. Kalinda stressed "the need to achieve a settlement of the Palestinian question through the two-state solution supported by the African Union".

The President of the Rwandan Senate also stressed the importance of setting up a parliamentary friendship group to "help strengthen relations between the two countries through the exchange of visits and the sharing of experiences".
