2024 Presidential Election Corruption Verdict: Neghza, Sahli, and Hamadi Receive 10-Year Sentences

The corruption case involving 2024 presidential candidates Saida Neghza, Belkacem Sahli, and Abdelhakim Hamadi has concluded, with all three sentenced to 10 years in prison for electoral misconduct.

The three candidates were tried on May 8 for their roles in a significant electoral corruption case. The public prosecutor at the Sidi M'hamed economic and financial center demanded severe penalties, citing breach of trust, embezzlement, and violations of financial transparency regulations. The court’s final decision, handed down earlier today, was a tough one for the main defendants.

Each of the three received the maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of 1 million dinars. In a further twist, Neghza's children were also sentenced to prison terms of 6 to 8 years. Other individuals involved in the case, including elected officials, members of the General Confederation of Enterprises, and citizens, received varying sentences ranging from acquittals to up to 8 years in prison.

This decision represents a significant moment in Algeria's ongoing fight against electoral corruption.

The court's harsh ruling signals a strong stance against electoral fraud in Algeria, with the maximum penalties for key figures in the scandal.
