Acting Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb Chairs Meeting on 2025 Social Reform Preparations

Acting Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb chaired a videoconference with Algeria’s walis on Monday, September 1, to prepare for the 2025 social reform, as announced by the Ministry of the Interior.

The meeting, held at the Government Palace, was attended by Interior Minister Brahim Merad and senior government officials. According to the ministry’s statement, discussions focused on monitoring the implementation of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directives regarding preparations for the 2025–2026 social year.

Key issues on the agenda included the start of the school and university year, preparations for the fall and winter seasons, local development projects, citizens’ concerns, and economic investment initiatives.

School Year as a Top Priority

This meeting follows the first measures taken by Sifi Ghrieb since his appointment on August 29. He made the 2025–2026 school year his top priority, signaling a new approach to governance.

Unlike his predecessor, Ghrieb has opted for more open communication to reassure families on sensitive issues. His first working meeting, dedicated to school supplies, was broadcast on video—an unprecedented initiative highlighting government efforts to reduce the financial burden on households.

The government aims to expand the number of sales points nationwide by organizing regional fairs and exhibitions. This initiative reflects the state’s commitment to ensuring affordable access to school supplies for all families.

Coordinated Action Across Ministries

By involving the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, the Minister of Domestic Trade, as well as representatives of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI) and the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), Sifi Ghrieb emphasized a coordinated response to citizens’ concerns.

This approach underlines the government’s broader strategy to address social needs while reinforcing economic investment and development.
