Algeria Reinforces Its Role in Sahel Security at Key Seminar

On May 25, Algeria sent strong messages regarding its pivotal role in the Sahel region during a seminar on security challenges. High-level officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf and Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Ministry of National Defense, emphasized Algeria's unwavering commitment to peace, stability, and development in the Sahel amid geopolitical rivalries.

The seminar, titled "The African Sahel: Security and Development Challenges in the Light of Geopolitical Rivalries in the Region," took place in Algiers and saw the participation of experts and government officials. Both Ahmed Attaf and Saïd Chanegriha reinforced Algeria’s stance of non-interference and mutual respect, highlighting its commitment to regional stability. Chanegriha stressed Algeria's ongoing efforts to build defense capabilities for neighboring Sahelian countries, while Attaf underscored Algeria’s wisdom in addressing regional issues with patience and clear-sightedness.

Algeria’s hands-off policy, which prioritizes dialogue and negotiation, remains a cornerstone of its foreign policy. The country continues to act as a key player in the Sahel’s security, despite external attempts to undermine its role. The session also included insights from Salma Haddadi, Vice-President of the African Commission, who explored the region’s ongoing security and development challenges.
