Algeria's Edahabia Card Production Reaches 50,000 Units Per Day, Boosting Digital Payments

On Monday in Algiers, Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sid Ali Zerrouki conducted an inspection visit to the Edahabia electronic payment card center in Birtouta, to verify the center’s new production capacity of 50,000 cards per day, as part of the government’s roadmap to boost electronic payment in Algeria.

The visit follows earlier directives from the minister to scale up operations at the Edahabia card personalization center. According to the Ministry’s official statement, the production facility now benefits from a newly commissioned, high-tech production line that aligns with international standards of security and reliability.

With this enhancement, the center can now issue up to 50,000 cards daily, significantly improving manufacturing and delivery times for millions of users across the country.

Currently, over 15 million Edahabia cards are in circulation. These cards are widely used for ATM withdrawals, payments, and fund transfers, making them a key tool in Algeria's digital payment infrastructure. The production ramp-up is viewed as a vital component in expanding financial inclusion and reducing cash dependency.

During his visit, Minister Zerrouki emphasized the need for innovation and announced that new features for Edahabia cardholders will be introduced in the coming weeks, though specifics were not revealed.

This move is part of a broader national effort to modernize Algeria’s financial system, expand access to banking services, and support digital transformation, especially in underserved regions. The government continues to promote a shift toward a cashless economy aligned with its long-term economic and technological goals.

The successful expansion of the Edahabia production center demonstrates Algeria’s commitment to digital financial inclusion and modern infrastructure. With new functionalities expected soon, the Edahabia card is set to play a central role in the country's transition to a digital economy.
