Algeria’s Trade Directorate Calls on Importers to Regularize Operations Before May 14

The Trade Directorate of the Wilaya of Algiers is urging importers of goods intended for resale to regularize their operations by May 14. The new regulations require operators to submit relevant documentation to confirm compliance with import laws.

The Trade Directorate has granted importers a three-day window to comply with this new regulation, which affects businesses that obtained import licenses between January 1, 2024, and March 30, 2025. The required documents include a copy of the import license, a domiciled invoice, and the product entry license.

Importers in other regions, including Boumerdès and Sétif, are also expected to comply by similar deadlines. Non-compliance could result in the revocation of their compliance certificates and their removal from the list of authorized importers.

Additionally, banana importers were recently given their banking domiciliation documents to ensure a steady supply of goods to the national market. This move is part of broader efforts to regulate the national market as the President of Algeria pushes forward with economic reforms.

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion highlighted that these measures are aligned with the President’s directive to dissolve the National Agency for the Promotion of Foreign Trade (Algex). In the interim, the Ministry is working to establish new bodies that will oversee both import and export operations under the authority of the Prime Minister.

This new initiative aims to enhance transparency in Algeria’s foreign trade operations and ensure that import activities are carried out according to national regulations.
