Algerian Presidency Denies Fake Interview Attributed to President Tebboune

On Tuesday, June 17, the Algerian Presidency firmly denied claims circulating on social media alleging that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune had granted an interview to French newspapers. The Presidency clarified that no such interview took place and condemned the reports as a fabrication.

In an official communiqué, the Presidency of the Republic addressed the growing online circulation of what it called "false information", stressing that President Tebboune had not spoken with any French media outlets.

"This is purely an invention by hostile accounts that used Photoshop to deceive both Algerian and international public opinion," the statement read.

The General Directorate of Communication further reaffirmed that no interview has been granted to any foreign newspaper and strongly condemned what it described as "shameless and unethical methods". The statement blamed mercenary actors using digital tools to spread slander and misinformation.

The Presidency also issued a call to journalists and media outlets, both domestic and international, to verify all such claims through official channels before publication.

The statement concluded by reminding the public that any official interview by the President is typically announced through the Presidency's official channels, national television, or the foreign media organization involved.
