Algerian President Tebboune Appoints Zoheir Bouamama as New Advisor for Political Affairs

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria appointed Zoheir Bouamama as the new Advisor to the President for political affairs, civil society, and political parties. Bouamama, an expert in political science and international relations, was officially named to the position via a presidential decree signed on Wednesday. This marks the second such appointment within a month, following Ammar Abba's appointment as an advisor for diplomatic affairs.

Zoheir Bouamama brings a wealth of expertise to the role, holding a doctorate in political science and serving as a professor at the University of Algiers. His recent work includes serving as an international affairs consultant for state-owned channel Algérie24. His new role will focus on strengthening political ties, improving relations with youth, and fostering collaboration with civil society and political parties.

The appointment of Bouamama is significant as it follows the appointment of Ammar Abba to the presidency on April 25, who is tasked with diplomatic affairs. Abba, a seasoned diplomat, brings years of experience from his ambassadorial posts in Russia and the UK, further enhancing the President's advisory team.

In a broader context, the announcement also follows the sentencing of former advisor Mohamed Bouakkaz, who was convicted of abuse of office and illicit enrichment, reflecting President Tebboune's commitment to accountability within his administration.

This second appointment within a month highlights President Tebboune’s focus on reinforcing his team with experienced individuals capable of managing Algeria's political and diplomatic challenges, while also ensuring a stronger connection with the youth and civil society.
