The Algerian Union Bank (AUB) is continuing its expansion in Mauritania with the opening of a new branch in Zouérate, planned for June 2025. This follows the successful launch of two branches in 2023, as the bank aims to strengthen Algerian-Mauritanian economic ties.
The AUB opened its first branch in Nouakchott in September 2023 and later added a second branch in Nouadibou. Mohamed Zerrouki, AUB’s Commercial Director, confirmed the establishment of a third branch in Zouérate, a town situated 700 km northeast of the capital. Zerrouki also outlined plans to open additional branches in Nouakchott and other key regions across Mauritania.
In terms of future objectives, AUB aims to initiate financing activities, enhance its international operations, and assist customers in forging relationships with Algerian businesses. Additionally, the bank is exploring financing options for projects by both Algerian and Mauritanian operators, focusing on those that are viable, profitable, and contribute to the strengthening of economic cooperation between the two countries.
The expansion of the Algerian Union Bank in Mauritania reflects the growing economic ties between the two nations. With new branches and an ambitious 2025 action plan, AUB is set to play a significant role in fostering trade and investment between Algeria and Mauritania.
