The Minister of Finance, Laazi Fayed, chaired a joint coordination meeting with the Minister of Internal Trade and Market Control, Tayeb Zitouni, on Tuesday at the Ministry of Finance headquarters.
The meeting aimed to address the challenges posed by unregulated economic activities and informal markets, which significantly impact the national economy, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Finance.
During the discussion, Minister Fayed emphasized that 2025 has been designated as the “Year of Digitization”. He highlighted the government’s plans to promote electronic payment systems and enhance the collection of financial and tax revenues. Fayed stressed the importance of coordination between sectors to achieve these objectives, describing the trade sector as strategic for driving economic growth.
He also outlined the meeting’s focus on mechanisms to optimize tax resources, create a business-friendly environment, and intensify efforts to combat the parallel market, which remains a pressing issue for Algeria’s economy.
Minister Zitouni echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of promoting social and financial justice. He stressed the need to reinforce the social role of the State as envisioned by Algeria’s highest authorities. Zitouni also called for spreading a culture of tax compliance and awareness among economic actors to foster a participatory approach and eliminate informal practices hindering economic progress.
Both ministers praised the collaborative efforts between their respective sectors, noting that such coordination is essential to achieving shared goals.
To ensure sustained progress, the ministers announced the launch of periodic workshops between their ministries. These workshops will focus on defining medium-term operational objectives, monitoring outcomes, and making necessary adjustments to improve results.
This meeting marks a significant step toward addressing the challenges of the informal economy and aligning efforts to create a robust, regulated market in Algeria.
