On Thursday, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune signed a decree ending Nadir Larbaoui's duties as Prime Minister and appointed Sifi Ghrieb as interim Prime Minister to ensure continuity of government affairs.
Sifi Ghrieb: A New Face at the Helm of Government
At 51, Sifi Ghrieb is well known in Algeria’s economic and industrial sectors. An engineer with degrees in industrial engineering and industrial economics, he has held key positions in industrial planning and management. Before joining the government, he led the Industrial University under the Ministry of Industry, where he worked to promote national talent and revive local production.
In November 2024, Tebboune appointed him Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, succeeding Ali Aoun. In that role, Ghrieb pushed for stronger investment, support for SMEs, and a better legal framework to attract foreign capital.
Ghrieb’s Vision and Priorities
Sifi Ghrieb is recognized for his belief in harnessing Algeria’s human capital—both local and from the diaspora—to drive industrial revival. He has consistently emphasized the need to restore Algerian industry, reduce reliance on imports, and build sustainable growth.
As interim Prime Minister, Ghrieb steps into a broader political role at a crucial time. He will be tasked with steering government action amid high social and economic expectations. Key priorities include reviving national production, curbing inflation, and diversifying the economy.
Ghrieb’s appointment marks a significant shift in Algeria’s leadership. His industrial expertise and people-centered vision could set the tone for the country’s next stage of economic and social development.
