President Abdelmadjid Tebboune inaugurated the 56th edition of the Algiers International Fair (FIA) on Monday, June 23, 2025, with a record 145 companies from 31 countries taking part. The Sultanate of Oman, this year's guest of honor, presented a symbolic painting to highlight strong bilateral ties with Algeria.
At the heart of the opening ceremony, President Tebboune visited several key booths. The Sultanate of Oman, with which Algeria maintains robust diplomatic and economic relations, presented a hand-painted portrait featuring both President Tebboune and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, alongside their national flags. The artwork, completed over ten days, was described by an Omani representative as “a symbol of our strong relations.”
President Tebboune also stopped by the stand of Algerian agricultural equipment manufacturer AGM, urging them to “work around the clock” to satisfy local market needs.
A significant portion of the President’s tour was devoted to the Ministry of National Defense (MDN) stand, where the Algerian People's National Army (ANP) showcased domestically manufactured weaponry and technology. Among the highlights were:
A submachine gun fully produced by the Khenchela-based ECMK company, intended for military and security forces.
A locally made anti-aircraft machine gun and a hunting rifle.
Industrial “crushing balls” used in mining, prompting the President to ban their importation, favoring domestic production.
A presentation on fiber optic cable manufacturing led to an executive order requiring the army's approval for future imports in this sector.
In naval defense, the army unveiled a new Algerian-made attack boat and a high-power tugboat, both considered strategic additions to the national fleet.
The 2025 Algiers International Fair not only reinforced Algeria’s global partnerships but also highlighted the country’s growing industrial and military capabilities. With a strong turnout from international companies and a focus on national production, the event marks a pivotal moment in Algeria's economic and strategic development.
