Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb Launches Industrial Revival Tour in Chlef

On Thursday, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb led an official visit to the province of Chlef to relaunch industrial projects, inspect key factories, and assess major infrastructure needs as part of Algeria’s industrial recovery plan.

Mandated by the President of the Republic, Sifi Ghrieb’s mission focuses on revitalizing strategic factories and reactivating local economic levers. The central event of the tour was the reopening of the Captain complex, a seafood canning facility under the Agrodiv group—symbolizing the government’s broader commitment to industrial revival.

The Prime Minister’s official program began with a reception at Abou Bakr Belkaïd International Airport before heading to Ténès, where he inspected the Captain complex. He then visited the Peng-Pu mechanical factory in Oum Drou, which produces buses, trucks, and spare parts. The day also included an inspection of the Nover table glass factory’s extension project in Oued Sly’s industrial zone.

In addition, Sifi Ghrieb examined the 50-kilometer National Road No. 19 linking Chlef and Ténès. The route suffers from heavy congestion, erosion, and structural damage—issues worsened by the long-suspended Chlef–Ténès–Tissemsilt highway project.

During the visit, the Prime Minister instructed the immediate adoption of a development roadmap for the Captain complex, with budget allocation and deadlines starting next week. He emphasized the use of local materials and cooperation with Mauritania for raw material supply.

At Peng-Pu, discussions centered on strengthening private sector involvement in industrial recovery and boosting the mechanical industry’s investment climate. The Nover factory was urged to expand export capacity and strengthen its integration into the local industrial ecosystem.

Sifi Ghrieb’s tour highlighted both progress and persistent challenges in Chlef’s industrial sector. While key factories are being reactivated, infrastructure constraints—particularly on National Road No. 19—continue to hamper full regional development.
