Public institutions and companies in Algeria, including the National Bank of Algeria, Naftal, and Algérie Poste, are warning citizens about a surge in online scams exploiting their identities through fake job ads and fraudulent offers.
The boom in e-commerce and digital services in Algeria has drawn not only new investors but also cybercriminals who exploit system vulnerabilities. The National Bank of Algeria (BNA) has firmly denied recent recruitment ads circulating on social media, calling them “false and fraudulent.”
In an official statement, the BNA urged the public to “be vigilant and avoid interacting with these misleading advertisements.” These scams often aim to extract personal data or payments under the guise of registration or training fees.
Similarly, Naftal, the public fuel distribution company, has been targeted by cybercriminals impersonating the firm to extort money from job seekers. The trusted reputation of national brands makes them ideal targets for such schemes.
Algérie Poste has also warned against the unauthorized use of its name and logo online. The postal operator emphasized that these malicious acts threaten citizens’ safety and institutional integrity, urging the public to report any suspicious activity.
According to experts, the rise of identity theft and online scams in Algeria mirrors growing internet penetration, with an estimated 36.2 million users in 2025—representing a 76.9% rate. Social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram have become prime grounds for spreading fraudulent job offers and fake applications.
Mobile connectivity and widespread smartphone usage have accelerated these trends. Cybersecurity specialists note that scammers often target unemployed youth seeking opportunities in a digitalizing economy.
Authorities are intensifying awareness campaigns through social media and traditional media outlets to educate citizens on safe online practices. Security services and the National Gendarmerie continue to dismantle fraud networks, urging the public to rely solely on official websites for employment and service information.
