Major Bridge Completed on Béchar-Tindouf-Gara Djebilet Railway, Marking Key Milestone

Algeria has achieved a major breakthrough in its Béchar-Tindouf-Gara Djebilet railway megaproject with the completion of a 665-meter bridge on the Hammaguir-Abadla section, ANESRIF announced.

The National Agency for the Study and Monitoring of Railway Investment Projects (ANESRIF) confirmed that the final concrete slab has been laid on the 665-meter bridge, officially marking the end of its construction. Located in the wilaya of Béchar, the bridge represents one of the most technically significant components of the 950-kilometer railway project connecting Béchar, Tindouf, and the mining region of Gara Djebilet.

According to Abdelkader Mazzar, ANESRIF’s central communications director and project manager, the bridge was completed ahead of schedule — a feat he attributes to the expertise and performance of national companies. “This achievement reflects the capability and dedication of Algerian teams,” he said.

The milestone follows recent instructions by the Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, who in late September urged faster progress to recover from previous delays.

Ongoing Acceleration Efforts:

ANESRIF CEO Azzedine Fridi has been actively overseeing the acceleration phase. His recent field visit covered several major sections, including:

  • Tindouf–Oum El Assel (175 km)

  • Hammaguir–Oum El Assel (440 km)

  • Hammaguir–Abadla (100 km)

During his inspection, Mr. Fridi stressed the need for tighter coordination among all partners — including public companies and Chinese collaborators — to meet the project’s end-2025 completion target.

Next Phase: Mecheria–El Bayadh Line Launch

Parallel to the Gara Djebilet line, ANESRIF is preparing to inaugurate the 130-kilometer Mecheria–El Bayadh railway. Designed as a high-speed connection, it will strengthen links between the southern wilayas and the Hauts Plateaux, further integrating Algeria’s transport infrastructure.

The completion of this key bridge stands as a symbol of Algeria’s drive to modernize its rail network and enhance regional connectivity. It also demonstrates the growing competence of national construction firms in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects.
