Parazar: From Comedy to Chart-Topping Rap Star, The Algerian-Canadian Artist Blends Cultures in Music

Parazar, an emerging 27-year-old rapper from Oran, now based in Montreal, is redefining the French rap scene with her fusion of Algerian darija, raï, and French rap, along with a comedic flair.

Parazar, whose real name is Houria, initially aspired to be a comedian before discovering her passion for rap by chance. Despite envisioning a future in humor, her musical journey took an unexpected turn when she recorded a song for a comedy project, leading to her stage name "Parazar."

The artist, in collaboration with composer Fifo, produced her hybrid EP “C’est Live,” combining rap and raï, which set her apart with a distinct style. Her music celebrates her dual heritage, mixing French and Algerian Arabic, and channels both Oran and Montreal vibes.

Parazar's rise in the music world was a whirlwind—she went from auditioning for Quebec's "La fin des faibles" TV show to making it to the finals, all thanks to an unexpected opportunity. Her multicultural background, honed in theater and improvisation, provides depth to her lyrics and performances.

Currently in Algeria for the release of her latest track “Ghir Hak,” Parazar reflects on how reconnecting with her roots in Oran made her realize the missing piece in her music. "I’ve understood what was circulating in my blood," she says. Her music is now infused with the spirit of Algeria, offering a blend of festive sounds and cultural pride.

With a fan base eager for more, Parazar is poised to be the next major force in French-language rap, celebrated for her blend of humor, cultural authenticity, and unique musical style.
